Robotic Hysterectomy, Trusted Care Help Bobbi Shine Again

Bobbi Wagner struggled for years with heavy bleeding during and between her periods. Virtua gynecologic surgeon Minda Green, MD, and a robotic-assisted hysterectomy provided Bobbi much-needed relief.

For more than 10 years, Bobbi Wagner struggled to figure out why she was bleeding so heavily during and between her periods.

“My periods were coming every two and a half weeks and they were lasting 15 days,” she said. “They were so heavy that there were times I would have to come home and change my clothes. It was unlivable.”

Bobbi's gynecologist attributed her condition to her weight, and even after a myomectomy in 2019 to remove uterine fibroids, her symptoms continued. Feeling like she was not being listened to and unhappy with the recommended care, Bobbi sought a second opinion.

With Virtua's Minda Green, MD, FACOG, Bobbi found a trusted minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon who understood what she was going through, allayed her fears, and provided treatment options best suited for her.

“I’d been bleeding for over a year straight, and my current doctor wasn’t helping,” said Bobbi. “Seeing Dr. Green was like a breath of fresh air.”

Reassurance and Caring from a Gynecologic Surgeon

Dr. Green told Bobbi, a nanny caring for three children, had a uterus the size of a woman who was five months pregnant.

“I had been dealing with all this pressure and didn't know my uterus was that size. I didn't have a baby in there,” said Bobbi, 42. “Dr. Green went through everything with me and explained what things meant. I understood for the first time what was going on.”

“Sixty to 80% of women have uterine fibroids, but most don't have a uterus the size of a baby or require major surgery,” said Dr. Green. “She was already past the point of simpler treatments. She had been bleeding for a year—she never had a day without it. She needed surgery. I told her this was not going to be easy, but I can absolutely take care of you.”

All Smiles Again After a Robotic Hysterectomy

In June 2024, Dr. Green performed a hysteroscopic myomectomy that removed a large fibroid in Bobbi's uterus and ensured that she did not have abnormal cells or cancer. As Bobbi still had multiple large fibroids and did not plan on having children, Dr. Green recommended a hysterectomy.

“I'm not going to keep duct-taping something for the next 12 years to get me to menopause and no bleeding,” said Bobbi. “I had to come to the fact that when you remove your uterus, natural-born kids are not an option, but it’s something I’m OK with.”

That September, Bobbi underwent a hysterectomy using the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System and a procedure to remove the vaginal cyst at Virtua Voorhees Hospital. She returned home the same day and was back at work within two weeks. She exercises regularly and has adopted a healthy diet.

“When I saw her, she was all smiles,” said Dr. Green. “She's in a better place in her life and I’m really happy to see that.”

“I don't know if I've ever been this healthy. I'm down almost 75 pounds since the day I walked into her office. Before, the motivation to be healthy wasn't there because nothing felt good,” she said. “It's just unbelievable how different my life is. It's not even comparable. Dr. Green gave me my life back.”
